Pleasanton Artist to be Featured at The San Ramon Art & Wind Festival

Pleasanton artist Rhonda Chase has been selected to be this year’s featured artist at The San Ramon Art & Wind Festival in May. As the featured artist, she has created a unique and vibrant fine art illustration that captures the spirit of the festival and will be displayed at the Lindsay Dirkx Brown Art Gallery during the festival month. This piece, titled On the Wings of Butterflies, will then become part of San Ramon’s permanent art collection.

In addition to commissioned artwork for the festival, Rhonda will have a featured artist’s solo exhibition of over 50 pieces of her original artwork at the Lindsay Dirkx Brown Art Gallery from May 2nd - May 30th. She will also have a reception on Sunday, May 19th from 1pm-3pm, and a poster signing during the Art & Wind Festival on Monday, May 27th from 1pm-3pm.

Rhonda’s newest body of work is an eye-catching mixed media amalgam of old and new styles. Her fine art illustrations largely begin as traditional pen and ink drawings on paper, which are then colored and completed digitally, all by hand, and printed on metal. “I’ve been working in pen and ink my whole life and am a Photoshop expert so it feels natural that this is where my artistic journey has led.”

Rhonda describes her newest work as “...semi-abstract and semi-fantasy. It is extremely happy, uses a vibrant palette, and is deeply in sync with my love of nature.” She continues, “ What excites me now as an artist is sharing beauty, and being a gentle, uplifting advocate for the environment. My subject matter often comes from nature: lemon trees and sunflowers, hummingbirds and dragonflies. I also like to portray other snippets of life that bring us joy like music and dance, or for the Art & Wind Festival, flying a kite.” Along with her bold, full-color pieces, Rhonda will display some of her black and white drawings. She wants people to see the progression of how her art gets created.

Rhonda’s show will have several dozen bold, colorful pieces, some painting and photography, and maybe a few surprises in the showcases.

For more information about Rhonda’s artwork and exhibition, please contact her at rhonda@rhondachasedesign.com or by visiting Rhonda Chase Design. For more information about the The San Ramon Art & Wind Festival, go to Art and Wind Festival - City of San Ramon.

Says Swati, “Being a Tri Valley resident for over 4 years now, I truly appreciate my neighboring hills and open landscapes. The magnificent wine country is my backyard. As an artist living in the Tri Valley, having participated in various art events and projects , TVC thought it would be nice to collaborate and that would bring us together and bridge the arts and wine country on many levels. Qiuwen Li is a Graphic Designer, Design Professor from Santa Clara, CA.  She was born in China, received her B.F.A. in Graphic Design from St.Cloud State University, MFA in Visual Studies focusing in Graphic Design from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design. Qiuwen’s design has been exhibited at the Boston University Art Galleries, CICA Museum (Gyeonggi-do, Korea), Tree Art Museum (Beijing, China), A plus A Gallery (Venice, Italy) and MCSU Art Gallery of the Faculty of Art (Lublin, Poland). She was recognized with several awards during her career - Winner of Design and Design International Award, Winner of Creative Quarterly in both Fine Art and Graphic Design Category, and Winner in The Society of Typographic Arts.

Demo

Qiuwen Li will showcase various series of work that merges typography, form, color, and language into abstract compositions presented as posters. Across all of her pieces, there is a notable exploration of the interplay between linguistic and visual communication. The demonstration will provide you with deeper insights into her artistic practice by employing an AR tool called Artivive, using tangible examples as illustrations. Artivive (https://artivive.com/), an augmented reality platform for art in her work.

In the artist's own words,  "My experimental typography work, I am interested in the space between linguistic and pictorial communication. My work explores the relationships between legibility and illegibility: typographic shape as image. As a designer, I understand the need for legibility, but I am more concerned with communicating something more visceral, expressive, and imaginative. I am influenced by the Global Style in contemporary graphic design, which includes transforming the simple 2D space of the printed graphic into an abstract deep space that seems to extend from the poster to the wall and worlds beyond".
